Even though maintaining beautiful curb appeal in the fall can seem more challenging, there are many festive options to decorate the exterior of your home.

Below is a list of four different ways to maintain beautiful curb appeal in the fall.

Plant Seasonal Flowers

There are plenty of flowers that can add a variety of brilliant colors to your yard’s autumn glow. The most popular is probably the chrysanthemum, mums for short. They come in a variety of colors: red, yellow, white, orange, peach, and pink. They also come in a wide range of sizes, fitting any decorative need you may have.

Pansies are another excellent option, especially if you want something that will bloom again in the spring! Other flowers you may consider for the perfect fall garden include croton, flowering kale, sweet alyssum, ornamental pepper, and dianthus.

Additionally, there are plenty of bulbs you can plant during the fall that won’t bloom until spring. If you put a little bit of work in now, it will pay off in a multitude of colors later. For more on the best spring-blooming bulbs, click here .

Decorate Your Front Door

It doesn’t matter if you’ve only a small doorstep or a spacious front porch, there are plenty of ways to spruce up your front door in the fall. It doesn’t take much to add extra charm to your house’s focal point.

Hang a wreath

Wreaths are a great way to add color and design to your front porch area without taking up space. You can either go buy a fall wreath at a store with a home décor section, or you can make one yourself! You simply need a wire frame, some seasonal greenery, and your own additional pieces for character: pine cones, fall leaves, ornaments, etc.

Add a bistro table and chairs

If you have the space, a simple chair next to a small table or stool adds plenty of sophistication and charm to your doorstep. Not only does it look good, but it gives you the perfect spot for morning coffee and a good book! You can always buy most any chair you might want, but you can also try your hand at refurbishing an old piece of furniture and making it your own! Autumn is the best time of year for that classic, rustic look.

Use pumpkins and gourds

An inexpensive accent to any doorstep is a pumpkin and gourd displace. Especially if Halloween has yet to roll around! Try your hand at making jack-o-lanterns, make a decorative display of assorted seasonal gourds and pumpkins, or place a plant or two next to it all. You can find a lot of this stuff for a reasonable price at most grocery stores or at a local pumpkin patch (if it’s still early enough).

Brighten your house with lights

From fall all the way through the early weeks of spring, outdoor lights are a great way to add an extra spark to your outdoor décor. You may want something dim and intimate with a more industrial glow, or you may want bright and vibrant, something that really pops when the sun sets. Either way, a strand or two of lighting around your doorway brings attention to all the other great decorating you’ve done to your doorstep. They are also great because once you have them, you can reuse them season after season!

Don’t over-decorate

This is a simple rule of thumb for any sort of decorating and design: don’t over-decorate. If you place too much on your front porch, or if your yard is overflowing with flowers and trees, there’s a chance it will look cluttered. A cluttered yard often looks messier than you want it to be. Focus on quality over quantity. It’s better to pick a few decorations and do them well.

Maintain your lawn

Raking leaves, cutting the grass, shoveling early snows, and other lawn maintenance is a must if you want quality curb appeal in the fall. Nothing makes a yard look messier and less appealing than an unkempt lawn. If you’re a hands-on person and enjoy taking care of each aspect of your home, grab a rake and get to it! If you aren’t a fan of lawn care, or if you don’t have the time during this busy season, consider hiring a local lawn service to take care of this for you. You can normally choose whether a lawn company services your lawn on a weekly or biweekly schedule. Also, a lot of companies will let you choose what aspects of your lawn they tend to. That way, if you only want a few things cleaned up, they can focus on those things!
